Web Hosting Company Hostway Offers .mobi Compliant Web Site Builder

02:31:50 - 08 November 2006

Leading Web hosting and online service provider Hostway Corporation is now offering customers the option of adding a Mobile Business SiteBuilder feature to their .mobi domain name registration.

Hostway commissioned a UK-based survey by independent research body TNS and found that although many people can access Internet services from their mobile phone, three quarters (73%) are not taking advantage of this feature. However, 90% of the survey respondents said that they would use mobile Internet if they could be sure that pages would load faster and they wouldn't incur high costs from their mobile operator.

".mobi was created to remedy the problems found in our survey by ensuring that Web sites are created that are compliant with the .mobi requirements and therefore easy to access from a mobile phone," noted John Lee, VP of global marketing for Hostway. "Our Mobile Business SiteBuilder tool makes it quick and easy for a customer to design a .mobi compliant Web site giving customers the opportunity to easily access the Web while they're on the go."

The template-based Mobile Business SiteBuilder tool gives customers the capability to design a 6-page Web site optimized for viewing from mobile devices. The Web site consists of the following pre-defined pages where users have the ability to do the following activities:

  • Homepage - Upload an image
  • About Us Page - Enter company information
  • Products and Services - List product specifications for up to 5 products
  • News - Include company news, press coverage and information on up to 3 upcoming events or trade shows
  • Directory - List contact information of up to 5 employees
  • Contact Us - Add company contact information
  • Additional features - Include Google Map and upload over 20 images

Approved by ICANN, .mobi is a new top-level domain specifically created for Internet use on mobile devices backed by leading mobile operators, network device manufacturers and Internet content providers worldwide including: Ericsson, Google, GSM Association, Hutchison, Microsoft, Nokia, Orascom Telecom, Samsung Electronics, Syniverse, T-Mobile, Telefonica Moviles, TIM and Vodafone.

.mobi was created to accommodate the needs of the growing segment of mobile Internet users. To overcome the past issues experienced with accessing the Internet from a mobile device such as high bandwidth cost, low content quality, applicability and slow access, the .mobi registry has created guidelines for Web sites to be compliant for .mobi.
