1&1 Internet Registers 5 Millionth Domain

12:58:10 - 21 March 2005

Milestone caps more than 12 years of global expansion

PHILADELPHIA, March 21, 2005 - Continuing its impressive growth both domestically and abroad, 1&1 Internet Inc., has announced that it has registered its 5 millionth domain name; bolstering its status as one of the world's largest and most successful domain registrars and Web Hosting companies.

The 5 millionth domain registration is the latest landmark in 1&1's consistent rise to the top of the domain registration/Web Hosting pack since its 1992 formation in Germany, where it still maintains its world headquarters. The company currently holds more than a 40 percent share of the German market alone, and in recent years has seen considerable growth in its other operations in the United Kingdom, France, Austria and, most recently, the United States.

"This milestone is of particular satisfaction for us," said Andreas Gauger, 1&1's Chairman of the Board. "It represents more than a decade of stability and growth that has allowed us to provide our customers with not only a domain, but the most feature-rich and affordable solutions for optimizing that domain. Eclipsing the 5 million registration mark clearly indicates a significant global demand for the unique, one-stop-Internet-shop approach we first developed several years ago."

1&1's 5 millionth domain name was one of four registered by the Bethlehem Area Public Library in Bethlehem, PA, USA. The organization plans to use www.bestbooksale.org, www.bestbooksale.info, www.bestbooksale.net and www.bestbooksale.us to help promote six fundraising book sales it conducts annually.

"Being 1&1's 5 millionth domain registrant clearly indicates that we have entrusted ourselves to a sound, well established company," said library executive director Jack Berk. "Our book sales are very important undertakings for us, and we are thrilled to be able to promote them with a web site of such high quality."

After successfully expanding outside of Germany to its other current European locations, 1&1 brought its full line of products to the U.S. in January of 2004 and has enjoyed brisk growth ever since. By Fall 2004 1&1 had already become one of the 10 largest Web Hosts in the country and, to date, has registered more than 400,000 domains domestically. Netcraft, an independent Internet research and analysis firm, in December released statistics indicating that 1&1 was the world's fastest-growing Web Host in 2004.
