AI And Automation: Predictions For 2018

2018-06-04by Tania Brooks

As long as you have not been under a rock for the past decade then you have no doubt heard about artificial intelligence and automation. These two words have become pillars in the tech industry while also being used interchangeably. There are a few reasons for the popularity of the terms.

Firstly, recent innovations in both technologies has led to a host of new smart devices that can interact with us on a daily basis. Amazon Alexa and Apple’s Siri are two choice examples of A.I. and automation working harmoniously to affect our everyday lives in magnitudinous ways. We are adopting them into our homes at an exponential rate and have started to integrate them into our work life as well.

Then there are the developments in the field of autonomous vehicles that have taken the world by storm with interest and caution. These great beasts that we were promised in the future are beginning to surface as real possibility and that has been met with surprisingly mixed fanfare.

However, the point stands that the technological innovations in A.I. and automation have made them part of our daily lives. Already we have seen so many new advancements that have changed our everyday lives, but what of the future? In this article, we are going to examine some predictions about the future of this technology in the year to come.

Greater Adoption Worldwide

Thanks to the work of an incredible amount of kind individuals, the number of people receiving online access has increased dramatically in the last few years. This has led to an increased demand for WIFI-enabled devices that can access the internet and exchange data freely, over borders.

Combine these efforts with the growing modernization movement around the world and you have a trend line akin to the Tower of Pisa. This means that the boom for smart devices is in full effect and that we are all apart of a magnificent time in history.

It also means that production must ramp up to meet demand. This all essentially means that automation and artificial intelligence are going to play much larger roles in 2018, in conjunction with technologies like Blockchain, than they ever have before.

Throughout the year we will see modernization hit every square inch of the globe leading to a massive proliferation of the technology. It will become ubiquitous and, much like the internet, will fade into the background as an essential part of our lives.

True Autonomy

This year will also see the rise of truly plausible autonomous vehicles that can make large trips on better efficiency without crashing or going off script. We have already seen massive improvements in the technology in the last 5 years and this year will be much the same with one exception, we will see a fully functional autonomous vehicle.

We may even see a vehicle that has full level 5 autonomy and can make decision in real time like a human might. 2018 will also most likely see the first examples of personal A.I. that can distinguish itself uniquely to assist in the development of further technologies. Between this and autonomous vehicles we should have quite an exhilarating year of announcements.

Smart Simplification

The most important development that will be made in 2018 will be the simplification the technology so that one does not need a degree to understand what is going on. Innovations in smart home devices and personal assistants are driving home what the technology can do, and the implications therein, by demonstrating real world practicality.

This was something that was hard to achieve even ten years ago, but, thanks to advancements in computing power we can have personal artificial intelligence that does what we need and learns our behaviors.

Conclusion

In the coming year, we will see further developments that make automation and A.I. part of our lives without question. Much like the internet or airplanes, these technologies will become dependencies while others will see them as pests but ultimately, they will become necessities in our daily lives.

Whether it is a new type of assistant or entertainment device, this year will finally bring an understating of this marvelous technology to everyone around the world. There is not a more exciting technology than automation and A.I. as its effects could be potentially revolutionary. Keep your eyes peeled in 2018 because you never know when the future will start.
