Six Ways Your Security Is Slipping And How To Get Back On Track

2016-12-15by Eileen O'Shanassy

Security is an asset in business that is often ignored. Too many businesses today let their guard down and then deal with the disaster later. Identity theft or robbery should not happen to you before you make preventative measures. Here are six ways to stay wary of your business security system and get back on track.

The Misuse of Portable Devices

Nowadays, everyone is seen carrying around smartphones and tablets. Be careful how you transfer information from the main computer at your office to a small portable device that you carry around everywhere. These gadgets are easy to fit into your briefcase, but remember that it is equally easy to fit into another person’s briefcase. Make sure people are authorized to use their devices in a work capacity and have these rules in place before bringing new hires on.

Lack of Knowledge About Information Security

Information security is a field that has existed since computers were invented. It is constantly changing as hackers find new ways to infiltrate computers at major businesses all the time. Research the latest news on your terms, or hire an information security consultant to help get you the information necessary in your industry.

Wrong Software

Choose software that provides full protection for your business and not just half. Evaluate your security needs and find the right type of program up front. As you use software, make updates or install the latest versions. An old version of a security program is almost no use to you at all.

No Security Training for Employees

You work in a company that holds massive amounts of confidential data and you cannot simply expect your employees to know what to do in every scenario. Provide security training sessions that teach employees how to handle data properly.

No Installation of a Real Security System

When you listen to the news, you hear about robberies, burglaries, and acts of terrorism. Install a real alarm system that prevents the entry of thieves and trespassers to your business. Many types of alarm systems for home and business buildings are designed to contact the police when signaled, so you will have no problem finding the right one with the correct capabilities.

Lack of Security During Business Trips

When people go on business trips, they usually feel relaxed and subdued. However, this is the time when they should be more uptight and cautious of the activities going on. First, protect the information that you leave behind and give authorization to trusted associates. Then, protect the data that you carry on the trip, through the airport and to your second office.

The security industry is growing and adapting to a changing world. Nowadays, there are additional threats of hackers and online thieves. Focus on how the world of technology is changing and improve your current security plan to protect your company.
