Web Hosting - Your Best Option Is? (Part 1)

Picking out the best web hosting service can be a task in its self, for a lot of novice computer users.  Considering there are thousands of services out there for you to pick and choose from, it can seem like a daunting task.  So you have done the hard part, picking out the perfect domain name, now it is time to pick out the perfect hosting service.  The truth is there is no one web hosting service that is the best for everyone.  I see all the time top 10 sites that all want to show a list of sites that are best for you; however you need to pick the best web hosting service that suits your needs.  In this article I am going to bring up some points to consider when considering choosing a service to trust.

Determine What Kind You Need?

The first thing you need to determine is what kind of web hosting package do you need.  Chances are if you are a small business, developing a personal site, blogger, or even running a eCommerce store you are going to want to go with shared hosting or a VPS (Virtual Private Server) package.  I would highly recommend that you don't spend your money on dedicated hosting until you really need it.  Spend your money on SEO, site development, ect.

Shared Hosting

So shared hosting is very cheap and appeals to a lot of people for various reasons.  The basic idea behind shared hosting is you are sharing your site with hundreds of other sites which are all hosted on the same server.  You do not have access to your servers operating system so in turn you are just paying a fee for a spot on a server which others are sharing.  You can choose normally between Windows or Linux.  This can be good and bad for you and I am going to discuss why.

Good obviously because it is cheap.  Some services even run under $5 per month.  Also, good in the since that you don't have to be a technology guru to run your own site as you would with a dedicated server.  If you are small site then a shared package will provide you with all the bandwidth and discspace you will need to run your site a full speed.

The bad is you are sharing with others and you have no idea what kinds of sites they are running.  It is totally out of your control.  They could be Blackhat sites, porn, gambling, or even sites that hog up most of the resources on that particular server.  For instance, if their a Blackhat site on the same server that your site is on you could possibly getting penalized by the Big G (Google) and wreak the havoc of a site under Googles review.  On the other side if you are hosting on the same server as a porn site you might notice very long load times for your site because their site is hogging all the resources with their streaming videos.
