Sun Teams with Industry Software Vendors for Its Data Services

00:00:00 - 01 October 2004

October 1, 2004 - (HostReview.com) - Sun Microsystems, Inc. (sun.com) today announced enhanced data service capabilities for its newest midrange system, the Sun StorEdge 6920 system, through the support of leading independent software vendors (ISVs) including AppIQ, Computer Associates and VERITAS. Separately, the new Sun StorEdge 6920 system achieved Designed For Windows logo qualification to provide a reliable, consistent experience for Windows platform customers.

"Today's announcement reflects Microsoft's efforts to work with Sun to address the needs of our mutual customers," said Rahul Auradkar, director, Windows Server Division at Microsoft Corp.

The Sun StorEdge 6920 system brings a new class of product to the midrange market. With its crossbar architecture and ability to "scale out" (i.e., add both drives and controllers while continuing to present a single image for simplified management), customers can dramatically improve utilization and optimize application performance.

"Customers are seeing an exponential growth in the amount of data they must store and manage, especially in the midrange sector," said Rich Napolitano, vice president of storage systems, Sun Network Storage. "As more customers look to networked storage as an answer, they are demanding open, interoperable solutions that enable simplified access to their data. Through our technology, and the support of these leading software providers, Sun delivers the most robust capability existing in the marketplace today."

Since its inception in 1982, a singular vision -- "The Network Is The Computer" -- has propelled Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) to its position as a leading provider of industrial-strength hardware, software and services that make the Net work.
