Mirror Image Selected to Webcast Private Space Travel Race

00:00:00 - 27 September 2004

September 27, 2004 - (HostReview.com) - Mirror Image® Internet, an adaptive network for online content, application and transaction delivery, today announced that the X PRIZE Foundation has chosen Mirror Image to Webcast SpaceShipOne's first private space flight for the $10 million ANSARI X PRIZE on September 29, 2004 from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. PT. Mirror Image will be on location to deliver the live Webcast directly from the Mojave Airport, providing spectators worldwide with virtual front row seats at www.xprize.org/webcast.

The ANSARI X PRIZE , a $10 million reward offered to jumpstart the space tourism industry through competition among the most talented entrepreneurs and rocket experts in the world, will be awarded to the first team that privately finances and builds a spaceship that launches three people 62.5 miles high and returns safely to Earth. The same ship will also be required to successfully repeat a second flight within two weeks. From its on-site airport location, Mirror Image will provide live encoding and signal transmission services back to its global Windows Media 9 Certified network for online delivery to the world.

"For more than 30 years, the general public has waited for an opportunity to enjoy the space frontier on a first-hand basis and we anticipate a huge online turnout for the SpaceShipOne launch on September 29th," said Peter Diamandis, X PRIZE Chairman and President. "The X PRIZE Foundation is working to make space travel possible for all and by partnering with Mirror Image, we are confident online visitors worldwide will not miss history in the making due to performance or capacity issues."

"Streaming media technology empowers organizations to significantly broaden their reach by broadcasting events on a global scale," said Mirror Image COO Richard Buck. "This is an amazing event that many people have waiting a life time to witness. We are thrilled that our affiliations with innovative organizations like the X PRIZE Foundation enable Mirror Image to be an integral part in making these historic events accessible to users around the world."

The ANSARI X PRIZE competition follows in the footsteps of more than 100 aviation incentive prizes offered between 1905 and 1935, which created today's multi-billion dollar air transport industry.
