Terremark Provides Internet Services To Miami-Dade County

00:00:00 - 20 September 2004

September 20, 2004 - (HostReview.com) - Terremark Worldwide, Inc. (www.terremark.com), a leading operator of integrated Tier-1 Internet exchanges and best-in-class network services, today announced that Miami-Dade County has signed a contract for Internet connectivity and collocation services at the NAP of the Americas.

"We are excited to partner with the County to service its citizens and industries," said Manuel D. Medina, Chairman and CEO of Terremark Worldwide Inc. "The NAP's unique value proposition and the benefits we have to offer the public sector have made us the facility of choice for government entities. We welcome Miami-Dade County as it joins our growing list of public sector customers, including the City of Coral Gables, U.S. Southern Command and the U.S. Department of State."

The total contract value is approximately $5.4 million, including all options and extensions. The terms of the contract include a two-year contract for 600 sq. ft. of collocation space and power, plus four one-year extensions and options for two additional allotments of 600 sq. ft. of space and power.

Terremark will provide the County with a package of Internet access and managed router services, which includes dual high-speed connections into the NAP's exchange point platform, secure and redundant collocation space and power, and access to the NAP's multi-carrier Internet routing service. The contract also serves as a vehicle for other municipalities to purchase multiple services that Terremark offers at the NAP of the Americas.

Miami-Dade County is the largest metropolitan area in the State of Florida with more than 2 million residents, encompasses 34 municipalities in a geographic area of more than 3,700 square miles, and has an annual budget of over $6.0 billion. The County employs approximately 30,000 staff members in 7 strategic areas that include public safety, transportation, health and human services, and economic development.

As the County continues to experience growth in the use of Internet resources, much of it resulting from its own increased provision of e-services for citizens and industry, it has become mission-critical to have sufficient capacity and the most reliable and secure Internet access services available.

The NAP of the Americas will support the County's Internet services and significantly expand its connectivity capabilities, enabling potential future seamless connections with local municipalities, the county's departments and other organizations, as well as local educational institutions already at the NAP, such as Florida International University and the Florida LambdaRail Consortium.

Terremark Worldwide Inc. is a leading operator of integrated Tier-1 Internet exchanges and best-in-class network services, creating technology marketplaces in strategic global locations.
