ARMONK, NY -- Sep 3, 2004 -- IBM continued its momentum in the external disk storage systems market by growing factory revenue by 4.7 percent year-over-year during the second quarter of 2004, as measured by IDC (1) in a report released today. The data also represents six consecutive quarters of year-over-year revenue gain for IBM.

IBM also had a double digit revenue growth for Open SAN attached disk products, up 22 percent year-over-year in the second quarter of 2004.

"Today's IDC data indicates that the storage marketplace squeeze on HP is tightening," said Tom Hawk, General Manager, IBM Enterprise Storage Systems Group. "As we expand our product offerings with breakthrough technology, we will continue our drive to offer the most innovative storage products and solutions to clients."

IBM continues to lead the industry with innovative technology and today released two new disk solutions to complement its wide-ranging storage portfolio. The new IBM TotalStorage DS300 is designed to give mid-size clients a simple, reliable and affordable option to transport data through standard iSCSI protocols, and is priced starting at under $3,000. The IBM TotalStorage DS400 is a new Fibre Channel storage system designed for medium-sized businesses.
