University of Utah Selects Sprint for State-of-Art IP Services

September 1, 2004 -  (HostReview.com) - Sprint (www.sprint.com) today announced that the University of Utah has selected the Sprint IPx communications system portfolio to connect the university and related multisite university buildings to a converged communications system. The five-year deal, led by Americom Technology, Inc., a Sprint Authorized Dealer, will migrate the university's communications system to a high-performance voice and data platform with a range of applications that is virtually unlimited.

"This is a complete telecommunications system transformation for the University of Utah," said Stephen Hess, associate academic vice president for Information Technology, The University of Utah. "It's essential that the university is equipped with state-of-the-art communications, and we believe that Americom Technology, Inc. and Sprint provide the management, technological and distribution expertise we need to complete a project of this scale."

"The Sprint IPx communications portfolio will move the University of Utah to a next-generation, IP-enabled system that will significantly improve communications capabilities with the ability to grow and change in tandem with the university", said Ron Richter, president, Americom Technology, Inc.

The Sprint IPx system is only available through Sprint Authorized Dealers and Sprint North Supply, the distribution and logistics arm of Sprint. Sprint-manufactured telecom products include the Sprint IPx Converged PBX, the Sprint i-Series™ IP Key System, the Sprint Structured Wiring Services(SM) and other Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) products.

United Cable & Telephone, Inc. d/b/a AMERICOM Technology was founded in 1981 as a partnership between Ronald J. Richter and Patrick W. Birkel. The company formed to provide telecommunication construction for companies like AT&T, US West, and Rolm.
