SoftLayer Launches Development Network
According to Mr. George, customers of the hosting provider will have access to both developers and system administrators in order to effectively and efficiently integrate API features into custom applications, commercial software or corporate intranets. The SLDN also offers a software development kit with information on building and integrating applications relevant to the SoftLayer API.
The SLDN also provides public forums where developers can share information and progress with their peers. Blogs by the SoftLayer development group on new features, updates and changes to the API will also be available.
"With the addition of the SLDN, developers have unprecedented access to information relevant to their hosting goals,” said Mr. George. “It’s a digital think tank of sorts, where the exchange of ideas and information is welcome and encouraged."
Currently, the SLDN provides example plugins for popular control panels such as cPanel, Plesk and Helm. In the coming weeks, the SoftLayer development group will be adding backbone bandwidth graphs and DNS capabilities, both authoritative and reverse to the API. Future releases are predicated on customer demand and input in the SLDN.
“At SoftLayer, we will always push the bounds of technology in order to provide best-in-class options and opportunity for our customers,” concluded Mr. George. “Our new SLDN is yet another tool in our ever-expanding chest of innovative solutions.”
