Mirror Image Selected for Flash Video Streaming Service

10:22:11 - 13 October 2005

Mirror Image® Internet, an established provider of results-driven content delivery solutions powered by a patented global network, today announced that Museum of the Moving Image is using Mirror Image’s Flash Video Streaming Service on a new Web site dedicated to enhancing interest in science and technology through the art of the moving image.

Museum of the Moving Image is dedicated to educating the public about the art, history, technique and technology of film, television and digital media and to examining their impact on culture and society.

Museum of the Moving Image maintains the nation's largest permanent collection of moving image artifacts and offers exhibitions, film screenings, lectures, seminars and other education programs.  Most recently, it launched ‘Science Cinémathèque,’ a Web site dedicated to the science and art of the moving image and funded by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

Science Cinémathèque features 20- to 40-minute streaming videos of prize-winning student films that were made with support from the Sloan Foundation; an online video archive of the Sloan Science on Film Dialogues, a series of annual events hosted by the Museum; and a magazine-style section with media-driven articles that explore the relationship between science and film.

Mirror Image’s global patented Content Access Point® (CAP) network, along with its hosting and delivery of Macromedia Flash Video Streaming Service, ensure that visitors experience top-quality, reliable, uninterrupted streaming videos.

“No other museum is able to offer this type of content,” said Carl Goodman, deputy director and director of digital media for Museum of the Moving Image.

“Extensive resources are needed to do this, including Web server resources and staff.  We are lucky that our relationship with Mirror Image allows us to offer such compelling, in-depth content at no risk to our network.”

Mirror Image also provides benefits for visitors, such as an auto-bandwidth detection feature that allows the site to stream content at a speed appropriate for the user—eliminating the hassle of content freezes.

“We are happy to support the Museum’s groundbreaking new Web site dedicated to science and film,” said John Rozen, chief operating officer at Mirror Image.

“Rich media adoption is on the rise, and for organizations looking to stream video integrated into the Web experience, Macromedia Flash Video is an ideal choice for addressing this demand,” said Chris Hock, director of product management, Macromedia.

Mirror Image® Internet, Inc. combines a patented global network with results-driven content delivery solutions to help customers deploy, monitor and refine online strategies.

Recognized by EContent magazine as one of the 100 “Companies That Matter Most” in the digital content industry, Mirror Image is a U.S.-based company incorporated in Delaware and headquartered in Tewksbury, Mass.
