Petfinder.com Selects Equinix Data Center

11:23:37 - 12 October 2005

Equinix, Inc. (www.equinix.com), a provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that Petfinder.com, the oldest and largest searchable directory of adoptable pets on the Web, has signed an agreement to establish operations within one of Equinix's New York area Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) centers.

The deployment to Equinix will support the operations of Petfinder.com's ongoing mission to help animal placement organizations find homes for their homeless pets, as well as support their new Animal Emergency Response Network, a service that will help match animal victims and caretakers during times of emergency or natural disaster.

Petfinder.com offers an online, searchable database of over 190,000 animals that need homes, as well as a directory of more than 9,000 animal shelters and adoption organizations across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

The company's recently launched Animal Emergency Response Network provides a collaborative database that links information from the public and emergency response organizations, making it available to rescuers, victims and volunteers.

By expanding to Equinix's network-rich New York center, Petfinder.com can directly access a large aggregation of network service providers offering connectivity to end-users, within a single centralized location, rather than reaching these strategic partners in multiple disparate locations.

Equinix's industry-leading data center environment also provides Petfinder.com with a secure and redundant physical platform for IT operations.

"The recent hurricanes in the Gulf States have highlighted both the human and animal toll of natural disasters and the need for an efficient and reliable system of linking animals and caregivers," said Betsy Saul, president and CEO of Petfinder.com.

"We are pleased to work with Petfinder.com which regularly provides a much needed service of connecting potential owners with the overwhelming population of homeless pets, as well as providing an important service during emergency situations," said Margie Backaus, chief business officer for Equinix.

Equinix is the leading global provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services for enterprises, content companies, systems integrators and network services providers.
