HP today announced that John H. Hammergren, chairman and chief executive officer of McKesson Corporation, has agreed to join HP's board of directors.
Hammergren, who is expected to be formally elected to the position later this year, would be the 11th member of the board and its ninth outside director.

"We are delighted that John will be joining HP's board," said Patricia Dunn, HP chairman. "He has an exceptional track record running one of America's largest companies. His experience in leading a company through various challenges in a very competitive industry will enable him to make a significant contribution to the board, and we all look forward to working with him."

Hammergren, 46, has served since 1999 as a director of McKesson, a leading provider of supply, information and care-management solutions that reduce the cost and improve the quality of healthcare, with annual revenue of $81 billion in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2005. He was elected president and chief executive officer of the company in 2001 and chairman in 2002.

HP is a technology solutions provider to consumers, businesses and institutions globally. The company's offerings span IT infrastructure, global services, business and home computing, and imaging and printing. For the four fiscal quarters ended July 31, 2005, HP revenue totaled $85.2 billion.
