HP Sponsors Photo Exhibit for United Nations 60th Anniversary

HP is helping the United Nations celebrate its 60th anniversary by sponsoring a photo exhibit of UN archival photographs at the public lobby of the UN's New York headquarters.

The exhibit features 60 unique and rarely seen prints from the UN Photo Library produced on HP Designjet 5500 large-format printers using HP supplies and media.

The historic visual display commemorates the signing of the UN Charter in San Francisco in 1945 and contains archival photographs from the UN Photo Library that focus primarily on the early founding years of the organization. Content was developed by the UN Photo Library, Media Division and the UN Exhibits Unit, Outreach Division of the Department of Public Information in cooperation with HP.

Included are such poignant images as the first UN meeting at a converted Flushing, N.Y., warehouse, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill meeting aboard the British battleship HMS Prince of Wales, and the construction of the UN headquarters in New York.

The exhibit also provides a retrospective of UN humanitarian work in the aftermath of World War II, as well as the global issues on the UN agenda, such as its work on the HIV/AIDS crisis, the 2004 tsunami and Operation Lifeline Sudan.

"When the United Nations Charter was signed on June 26, 1945, the world gained one of its most important advocates for peace, global progress and humanitarian relief," said George Mulhern, senior vice president, Enterprise Imaging and Printing, HP.

Available in 42-inch and 60-inch width models, the HP Designjet 5500 printer series offers high-speed printing for print service providers, GIS (geographic information systems) professionals and graphic designers. The 5500 offers maximum flexibility in terms of color and media, a simplified workflow and remote management.

The premiere of the exhibit was marked by a gala event attended by such dignitaries as UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, General Assembly President Jean Ping and several UN Messengers of Peace and Goodwill Ambassadors. The UN 60th anniversary photo exhibit will be on view in the public lobby of the UN's New York headquarters through Sept. 5, 2005.
