Shazam Entertainment Chooses Redbus Interhouse to House Mobile Music

04:25:18 - 28 June 2005

London, 27 June, 2005 - Redbus Interhouse (UK) Ltd, the UK division of Europe's most advanced, independent colocation and managed services provider, today announced that it has signed a major contract with Shazam Entertainment Ltd, the UK-based pioneering audio technology company.  Under the terms of the agreement, Redbus Interhouse will house Shazam's hosted service platform and its music information database, Europe's largest, with over 2.6 million music tracks, metadata and cover art.  Shazam's equipment will be housed within an interSuite, a dedicated private and secure caged area built to Shazam's own specifications in one of Redbus Interhouse's five star facilities in London's Docklands.

Shazam's music recognition software enables users to identify the title, artist and album of music playing from an external source with any mobile 'phone.  Users 'tag' the music by pointing the phone at the music source and dialling a short code and once the music 'tag' is matched to information stored in the Shazam database, the user receives an SMS 'tag' within seconds, giving details of title and artist.  Users can save identification results for future reference and depending on network, subscription and service provider features, they may use the information to purchase ringtones, CDs and downloads via their mobile handset.

Shazam selected Redbus Interhouse for the quality and resiliency of its colocation facilities, combined with 24/7 technical support and the excellent scalability on offer, which ensures that Shazam can continue to grow at the pace it has achieved to date - more than 3 million users and 10 million calls to the service have been made since the company's launch in August 2002.

Tony Miller, Technical Operations Manager, Shazam Entertainment Ltd. commented, "Our customers want access, to our service any time, any where, so it's vital that our servers are always available and that there are no bottlenecks to reduce the speed of our service. Having evaluated the options, we felt that the environment and services Redbus Interhouse offer are second to none and will satisfy not only our existing needs, but also the future demands of the company on its current growth curve."

Simon Neal, UK Country Manager, Redbus Interhouse, said, "Growth in online business of the magnitude that Shazam has achieved often brings with it issues of scalability and availability in ensuring that the company maintains the service levels its customers expect. Redbus Interhouse's infrastructure, with our multiple levels of 24/7 security, stable high-capacity power supplies, fire protection, in-house support and environmental controls, has been specifically created to deal with such issues, so we're confident that we can support Shazam in its growth, at
whatever level it continues."
