Coraid Introduces Four Disk SATA EtherDrive Storage Appliance with RAID

11:29:20 - 20 June 2005

Four Disk product is Coraid's 1st SATA+RAID Appliance

San Clemente, CA, June 20, 2005 – Coraid Inc. maker of EtherDrive storage products announced today that its SATA line features a 1U, four disk storage appliance to compliment its existing 3U shelf for SATA disks. The new 1U size meets the demand for simple, cost effective, distributed network storage throughout the facility. The added RAID feature provides customers with even greater value and fault tolerance. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and 10 can be configured in the new appliance.

Coraid’s new 1U appliance features 4 hot swap drive bays which accommodate user installed standard SATA disk drives of any size and a dual GigE interface. Fully populated drive bays using 400 GB disk drives provide 1.6 TB of storage.

EtherDrive storage appliances use the ATA over Ethernet (AoE) protocol. The simplest, most efficient, and lowest cost means for networked storage. Using Ethernet connections, EtherDrive Storage appears to servers on the network as locally attached disks.

Like Coraid’s PATA product, the new 1U SATA product provides extreme scalability. The SATA EtherDrive appliance has dual GigE connections, so storage array performance is fast and reliable. A single chassis can provide 200MB/sec. of storage access throughput and because the AoE protocol is so efficient, any host can saturate its Ethernet connections to the storage and still have CPU cycles left for the server’s main applications.

About Coraid

Coraid designs and manufactures innovative networked storage appliances. The “power of simple” makes our storage products affordable. Coraid developed the open ATA-over-Ethernet (AoE) protocol which is used by EtherDrive storage products. This powerful and efficient protocol leverages the cost advantages of Ethernet to provide true networked storage.
