AFCEA's South Florida Chapter Announces This Year's Scholarship Recipients at Annual Luncheon

Terremark Senior Vice President of Operations and Federal Programs,Ben Stewart, will be the Keynote Speaker at the Luncheon

Miami, Florida.  May10, 2005.  The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association's (AFCEA) South Florida Chapter, a non-profit educational and professional association, announced today that five South Florida High School students will be honored at the AFCEA Annual Scholarship luncheon scheduled for Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:p.m. at the Sofitel Hotel in Miami, Florida. 

The keynote speaker for this event will be Ben Stewart, Senior Vice President of Operations and Federal Programs at Terremark Worldwide Inc.  Terremark is the owner and operator of the NAP (Network Access Point) of the Americas, located in Miami, Florida.

The five students who will be honored are Andrew Cox from American Heritage High School; Jellieth Cordona from G. Holmes Braddock High School; Daniel Lind from South Broward High School; Xavyance Handfield from North Miami Beach High School; and Julio Gonzalez from Piper High School.  AFCEA will award five scholarships of $1,000 each to the students, who will apply the scholarships toward their college education.
"We are delighted that once again the South Florida Chapter of AFCEA is able to award these scholarships," said Colonel Herb Newman, President of the AFCEA South Florida Chapter.  "These deserving students were selected from a large number of qualified candidates, and we know they will make us proud as they develop into our nation's future leaders." 

Explaining AFCEA's role in supporting the community, Colonel Newman stated, "We welcome the participation and support of individuals and corporations with interests in telecommunications and information technology to promote national security. AFCEA's South Florida Chapter is a perfect conduit for this relationship."

AFCEA International sponsors professional dialogue in the technical disciplines of communications, electronics, intelligence and information systems to promote national and international cooperation and security. 

The South Florida chapter furthers these goals by enabling government, industry and academic partners to achieve individual and corporate objectives in a cooperative endeavor to improve national security.  It provides an open forum in which government, corporate and educational leaders can exchange ideas, identify requirements and discuss potential solutions on national security issues.
