OPEC Picks Speedera for Conference Streaming

16:27:59 - 18 March 2005

Speedera Networks Inc. (www.speedera.com), a provider of on-demand distributed hosting and content delivery services, today announced that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has chosen Speedera to deliver live and on-demand streaming of its global conferences.

Visitors to www.opec.org can now view in real-time OPEC officials reviewing the prevailing market outlook for petroleum. Speedera most recently streamed live the opening proceedings of OPEC's Ministerial Conference from Iran on Wed., March 16, 2005. A press conference later that day was also streamed live.

Worldwide interest in the proceedings of OPEC's meetings and press conferences has risen in the wake of increasing oil prices. As part of its commitment to maintain stability and ensure that global markets remain well supplied at all times, OPEC officials said the Web site plays a critical role in communicating to the global community the activities of OPEC, its Member Countries, and the world energy industry.

"To reach our global audience, OPEC required a robust, distributed platform to deliver our streamed video content to anyone anywhere in the world interested in viewing the proceedings of our global conferences," said Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, head of OPEC's Public Relations and Information Department .

"Streaming content from a distributed global network of servers - closer to users - using an outsourced solution like Speedera's enables organizations like OPEC to have added capacity on demand and extend their global reach without incurring enormous infrastructure and management costs by building out their own network," said Ajit Gupta, president and CEO of Speedera Networks.

OPEC is an international Organization of 11 oil-exporting developing nations that co-ordinates and unifies the petroleum policies of its Member Countries.
