VERITAS Delivers Storage Management on Sun Solaris 10

16:24:56 - 15 March 2005

Drawing from a dozen years of innovation and collaboration, VERITAS Software Corporation (www.veritas.com) today extended its storage management and high availability offerings to include full support of Sun Microsystem's Solaris™ 10 Operating System (OS).

"VERITAS software has already helped The Philadelphia Stock Exchange increase storage utilization by more than 25 percent," said Bill Morgan, CIO, Philadelphia Stock Exchange.

Further, VERITAS is delivering on its commitment to support new releases of operating systems within 90 days of general availability with the release of the 4.1 versions of VERITAS Storage Foundation™, VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Volume Replicator software.

Sun customers can now upgrade to the Solaris 10 OS with confidence that VERITAS will deliver the same industry leading storage management and high availability technology it does today for Solaris 8 and 9, while adding new capabilities specifically designed to take advantage of the latest innovations included in the Solaris 10 OS.

"The new features in VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.1 will help us drive further cost efficiencies and simplify the management of our tiered storage model. Furthermore, because VERITAS software supports Solaris 10, we have seen tremendous operating system performance gains that will allow us to better serve our customers."

Streamlined Management: Increased Performance of Core Storage Management Functions

VERITAS Storage Foundation software now offers full support for the latest features and enhancements included in Solaris 10, such as Solaris Containers, DTrace and new security functionality with Process Rights Management and Solaris Secure Execution.

Additionally, VERITAS Storage Foundation software now includes a robust application program interface (API) and complete software development kit (SDK). These additions make it easier for companies to standardize on a common storage management platform across heterogeneous storage and server environments. In addition, partners and third-party developers can now write new applications to fully utilize VERITAS' storage management framework.

VERITAS Cluster Server 4.1 helps provide increased levels of data availability for applications, databases and servers as well as enhanced protection against downtime, whether planned or unplanned, in a local or wide area Solaris 10 environment as well as deployments using Solaris 10 Containers.

VERITAS Volume Replicator 4.1 gives Solaris 10 customers the ability to replicate and recover critical data regardless of the type of application or database being run in the environment, including Oracle RAC databases.

"VERITAS is committed to delivering the leading heterogeneous storage management and high availability platform to the large enterprise," said Robert Soderbery, vice president, Storage and Server Management Group, VERITAS Software.

Pricing for VERITAS Storage Foundation software starts at USD $1,495 per server, VERITAS Cluster Server starts at USD $2,995 per server and VERITAS Volume Replicator starts at USD $4,495 per server.
