EDS Delivers Comprehensive E-mail Archive Service Featuring EMC Centera

14:20:31 - 08 March 2005

EDS today announced the launch of a comprehensive e-mail archive service that eases enterprises' compliancy woes by more effectively managing corporate e-mail assets.

EDS will sell the service to new and existing clients challenged by more than 15,000 global regulations, including SEC 17a-4, HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley and Basel II.

EDS' managed service is based on EMC Centera; the industry's first content addressed storage (CAS) solution that provides simple, scalable, secure access to fixed content. EMC Centera ensures content integrity, delivers scalability and enables cost-effective, long-term data retention.

The managed archival service is offered as an extension to EDS Managed Storage Services, or as a complement to EDS Workplace Services and EDS Enterprise Content Management services.

E-mail archiving as a managed service has become necessary as the complexity and volume of messaging environments is stressed by work forces increasingly using e-mail as a mission-critical method of communication and source for storing crucial business information.

This service will also address organizations that are self-imposing new internal standards and procedures to contain costs and improve efficiency.

EDS e-mail archiving is offered as a per-mailbox per-month subscription service that includes application-aware policies supporting Microsoft® ExchangeTM and Lotus® Domino/Notes messaging platforms.

"E-mail archiving has become an increasingly critical component in enterprises' compliance programs and information lifecycle management strategies," said Sandi Scullen, executive director, EDS Storage Services.

A major U.S. regulatory agency needed to address both the business and technology challenges of e-mail archiving. Rather than attempt to tackle the complexity of developing, integrating and managing a solution themselves, they turned to EDS and EMC.

"This is a strategic alignment of two leading IT companies focused on solving a significant technology issue facing all corporations and government entities," said Tom Heiser, senior vice president and general manager of EMC's Centera Division.

With nearly three million desktops and more than 10 petabytes of storage under management in 60 countries, EDS delivers e-mail archiving as a managed service with a global reach and consistency that provides a secure cornerstone to enterprises' information lifecycle management programs.

EMC is a member of the EDS Agility Alliance, a federation of market-leading technology companies collaborating to innovate, develop and deliver EDS' next generation global delivery platform.
