Roaring Penguin Launches Free-License Edition of CanIt Anti-Spam Solution

16:43:37 - 01 March 2005

Organizations with Linux or UNIX expertise can now implement a leading commercial anti-spam/anti-virus solution at no charge. Roaring Penguin Software (www.roaringpenguin.com) today announced that its acclaimed CanIt anti-spam software will be available at no cost to organizations with up to fifty e-mail users.

CanIt, a server-side anti-spam solution for Linux/UNIX servers, was released commercially in 2002 to reduce the time required to manage spam and to prevent the loss of legitimate e-mail. The product quickly became the foundation for a popular line of anti-spam/anti-virus solutions used by enterprises, universities, colleges and government offices worldwide.

David Skoll, Roaring Penguin's President and CEO and a leading advocate of Linux , said, "CanIt was founded upon open-source technologies and the input of the open-source community. CanIt has provided a foundation for a successful commercial product line and we thought this free offering would be a fitting way to say 'Thank You' to the Linux community."

The Free CanIt version is available to any organization running a mail server and can be used to protect up to 50 mailboxes. The software can either be installed directly on a Linux mail server, or on a dedicated Linux machine to protect non-Linux servers.

For environments with more than 50 mailboxes the professional version of CanIt, CanIt-PRO, provides an advanced graphical user interface, per-user preference controls and is currently in use in organizations and campuses of up to 120,000 users. For businesses that are not using Linux/UNIX mail servers, the CanIt Appliance serves as a mail gateway between the Internet and any e-mail server. Both commercial solutions are available through Roaring Penguin.

CanIt is based on the open-source MIMEDefang mail inspection and manipulation software and provides a simple web-based interface to rapidly scan quarantined e-mail messages, release legitimate messages and deal with problem e-mail.
