ProCurve Networking by HP Expands Security Offering

13:27:04 - 22 February 2005

ProCurve Networking by HP today unveiled a secure, cost-effective branch office router and integrated mobile security solutions, extending the security framework of the ProCurve Adaptive EDGE Architecture from edge to edge of the network.

"We continue to build breakthrough solutions with advanced features at affordable prices. With this announcement, ProCurve Networking by HP is meeting our customers' current - and future - security needs for the WAN, LAN and WLAN. Companies can now turn to ProCurve for a complete, end-to-end networking infrastructure that can easily grow and evolve with their business needs," said John McHugh, vice president and general manager, ProCurve Networking by HP.

ProCurve is enhancing its portfolio of network hardware and software products by improving local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and wireless local area network (WLAN) security perimeters and providing advanced technology at affordable prices.

In related security news, ProCurve earlier this month enhanced its 5300 switches and ProCurve Manager with HP Virus Throttle technology, providing more detection, prevention and response to virus threats.

The solution, based on technology developed at HP Labs, detects worm activity as traffic enters the LAN and passes through the network switch. The infection is then "throttled" back to allow the network manager to react and take action before the virus spreads.

The ProCurve Secure Router 7000dl Series delivers modular, high-performance capabilities designed to adapt to the needs of an enterprise by supporting new services without incurring additional software costs. Unlike traditional routers, the 7000dl series is an affordable platform that grows with changing business needs.

"Doors are opening for me for even more potential sales now that ProCurve Networking by HP is developing a cost-effective and secure WAN connectivity solution," said Tareq Nu'man, Networking Engineer at Al-Diwan United Co., a reseller located in Kuwait.

Using an industry-standard command line interface (CLI), the Secure Router 7000dl Series is designed to minimize the amount of training or certification required to support configuration.

The series supports open standards to allow choice and flexibility when designing networks. Standard protocols supported include RIP, RIPv2, OSPF, BGP4, and IGMPv2 to support interoperability with legacy and multi-vendor products.

The ProCurve Networking business unit of HP is a supplier of enterprise networking solutions comprising wired and wireless enterprise networking products, services and solutions - including WAN routers, Ethernet switches, routing switches, wireless access points and network-management applications - which allow customers to build networks based on open standards that meet current and future needs for security, performance and reliability.
