IBM Deliveres eServer p5 Systems to Lockheed Martin

IBM (www.ibm.com) today announced that Lockheed Martin, one of the world's largest systems technology developers, has received IBM's latest UNIX technology to help power mission critical applications utilized by a US Government Federal customer in support of Lockheed Martin's Integrated Systems &Solutions (IS&S) business area.

"The success of IBM's POWER5-based server line has brought about a new era in UNIX computing -- offering clients new Virtualization Engine capabilities combined with record-breaking system performance," said Karl Freund, vice president, IBM eServer pSeriesĀ®.

IS&S will use the new IBM POWER5(TM) processor-based IBM eServer(TM) p5 570 systems with Micro-Partitioning(TM) and virtualization technology to consolidate a large number of UNIX servers, resulting in performance, systems management and availability improvements.

Lockheed Martin will be implementing two 16-way 1.9GHz p5 570 systems running IBM's most advanced UNIX environment -- AIX 5L(TM) v5.3. Lockheed Martin is currently installing the p5-570 systems as part of its large IT infrastructure.

The IBM eServer p5 570 is a POWER5 processor-based mid-range server that offers clients such as Lockheed Martin outstanding price/performance, mainframe-inspired reliability and availability features.
