IBM Expands Number One Position in Servers

IDC reported today that in 3Q 2004, IBM (www.ibm.com) was once again the number one server vendor in the world based on factory revenue.

IDC data shows that IBM gained world wide revenue share year-to-year in several key server areas. Highlights from IDC include:

• IBM remained number one in overall servers, gaining worldwide revenue share year-to-year.
• IBM gained overall worldwide server revenue share year-to-year in 3Q04, while the next two competitors lost share.
• IBM's sale of Intel-based server revenue grew year-to-year substantially faster than the overall x86-server growth.
• Of the top three vendors, IBM was the only vendor to increase its UNIX revenue worldwide in 3Q04 on a year-to-year basis.
• IBM is the number one vendor in 3Q04 in terms of both revenue and shipments for blade servers.
• Of the top three vendors, IBM was the world's fastest-growing blade server vendor in revenue in 3Q04 on a year-to-year basis.
