San Francisco Chronicle Picks Kashya for Data Solutions

11:24:16 - 15 November 2004

Kashya (www.kashya.com) announced that its KBX5000 has been chosen as the long-distance replication solution for the San Francisco Chronicle, the largest newspaper in Northern California, which was looking for the optimal method of ensuring the availability of its news and business information in the event of error, failure or disaster at its main data center in San Francisco.

"The KBX5000 is the most advanced replication solution we have seen," said John Galloway, MIS Infrastructure Systems Manager for the San Francisco Chronicle.

The five-time Pulitzer Award-winning Chronicle sought a solution that supports its heterogeneous server and storage environments and could protect against data loss, ensure data consistency and allow for quick recovery in the most cost-effective manner possible.

Data was to be replicated to a recovery site at the company's Union City, Calif. plant 25 miles from its central headquarters. Kashya's KBX5000 was the only product evaluated by the paper that met all of the requirements.

"We evaluated other replication options for this heterogeneous environment, but found that the KBX5000 was uniquely able to handle our replication needs. In addition, nobody else could even come close to the bandwidth savings that we get with the KBX5000."

By utilizing an existing satellite location, deploying lower-cost storage solutions at that site and deploying a comprehensive but flexible single-point solution that automates the data replication process, the San Francisco Chronicle saved on otherwise costly capital and operational expenses.

"The San Francisco Chronicle was looking for a replication solution that was flexible, easy to manage and cost effective," said Michael Lewin, CEO of Kashya.

Kashya's KBX5000 is currently protecting the Chronicle's critical Retail advertising workflow and volumes have been initialized for Classified and Editorial Pagination systems.

Kashya addresses the problem of high-performance and cost-effective business continuity and data protection capabilities by delivering an innovative solution using unique technologies and a whole new approach.

The Kashya Data Protection Appliance™ platform provides high performance business continuity and data protection across multiple locations with no distance limitations, at a fraction of the cost of alternative solutions.

The solution offers tremendous flexibility including dynamic policy-based replication, end-to-end management capabilities, enterprise-class scalability and the ability to support multiple, heterogeneous systems.
