Weather.com® Deploys NetScaler Application Delivery System

15:40:56 - 12 November 2004

NetScaler, Inc. (www.NetScaler.com) announced that Top 10 Web site weather.com, the Web site of The Weather Channel®, has deployed the NetScaler 9000 Series application delivery systems as part of its continuing efforts to speed information to weather watchers.

"The rare string of hurricanes hitting the United States drove our Web traffic to all time highs - nearly 890 million page views in September, which is more than double the number of page views in an average month," says Dan Agronow, weather.com's vice president of technology.

weather.com's search for an intelligent application networking device was part of its continuing efforts to stay ahead of growing traffic demands by adding new capabilities such HTML compression, attack defense, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) acceleration and Layer 7 switching to better manage the site's existing network capacity.

Configured in a high-availability pair, the NetScaler 9000 Series application delivery systems were deployed in August - just ahead of the succession of hurricanes. "The timing couldn't have been better," states Agronow.

"Real-time businesses, such as weather.com, are examples of the most demanding business environments in the world as the response times of their customer-facing applications are both public and highly visible," says Sheen Khoury, senior vice president of worldwide sales, NetScaler.

The Weather Channel, a 24-hour weather network, is seen in over 87 million U.S. households. weather.com, the company's popular Web site, is consistently ranked in the Top 10 by Nielsen//NetRatings.

NetScaler provides networking systems that enable the fast and secure delivery of applications by integrating a unique suite of optimization, security and switching capabilities.
