Internap Opens Phoenix P-NAP

14:57:02 - 02 November 2004

Internap Network Services Corporation (www.internap.com), a provider of performance-based IP services, announced that it has opened its new Private Network Access Point (P-NAP) in Phoenix to serve the burgeoning business community in the Southwest.

Internap is leveraging Sterling Network Services' world-class Phoenix data center in deploying its services in the area.

"We believe that coupling the Sterling facility with Internap's premier IP connectivity and management solutions sends a powerful message to companies looking to strengthen the redundancy, resiliency and reliability of their data center operations," said Dave Abrahamson, vice president of Sales for Internap.

The Sterling data center is housed within a hardened, blast-resistant concrete structure, and is considered one of the most disaster-resistant and redundant data centers and co-location facilities in the country, making it an ideal choice for Internap's new P-NAP. To provide the highest levels of security, Sterling's data center offers state-of-the-art biometric and physical access control devices; manned security and video surveillance; and advanced fire detection and suppression.

Internap's unique multi-carrier intelligent routing technology, which uses Private Network Access Points (P-NAPs) to speed Internet traffic from one location to another, allows customer traffic to avoid the congestion and bottlenecks of traditional single-carrier networks.

The P-NAP software continually analyzes the traffic situation on every major Internet backbone, and then selects the optimal path to deliver business-critical information and communications faster and more reliably.

According to the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, the greater Phoenix area is the sixth largest in the country, with a population expected to reach 3.3 million by 2005.

Maricopa County, in which the city of Phoenix resides, has been recognized by Fortune, Entrepreneur and Home Office magazines as one of the best places to build a business.

"With its diverse economy - covering industries such as high-tech, banking, manufacturing and government - the Greater Phoenix area represents an ideal growth opportunity for Internap," added Abrahamson.

Internap offers a broad portfolio of advanced, multi-network solutions for IP connectivity, colocation, content distribution, managed security, managed virtual private networks (VPNs), and managed storage.
