Maxtor Performs in Storage Networking World Orlando

00:00:00 - 25 October 2004

Maxtor Corporation (www.maxtor.com) shows a working demonstration of Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard drives in conjunction with Adaptec in the Storage Network World Conference, October 25-29, 2004 in Orlando, Florida at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes Resort.

The technology demonstration will include an Adaptec SAS host bus adapter (HBA) and an Adaptec SAS subsystem populated with 12 Maxtor 15,000 RPM prototype 36GB SAS drives.

The demonstration will showcase the power of SAS wide ports in addressing throughput bottleneck issues experienced by existing parallel SCSI, parallel ATA and fibre channel arbitrated loops.

"The Storage Networking World demonstration will highlight how the SAS architecture will scale to meet the throughput requirements of future generations of server and storage subsystems," said Kevin Wittmer, senior director of technical marketing at Maxtor.

As applications mature and change, SAS systems can be redeployed or configured with both types of storage, saving space and power. This capability, which Maxtor calls Serial in a Box™, can lower the total cost of ownership of storage by combining the complementary benefits of SAS and SATA disk drive technologies in one system.
