7 Lead Capture Page Tips

2010-02-12by Luke Riley

Lead capture pages, squeeze pages or landing pages - call them whatever you like, the entire purpose of a Lead Capture Page is to create interest in the product(s) or opportunity that you are marketing and get the reader to give you their name and email address. You can then send them follow up emails with new offers and information, with the aim to build a relationship based on like and trust with the reader and ultimately sell them your product or opportunity.

If you follow the seven steps listed below you will increase the amount of traffic that comes across your page, as well as the number of opt-ins that you get. If you have an online home business or are looking to start one then this will be extremely valuable to you.

1 - KEEP IT SIMPLE

Don't put too much information, pictures or videos onto your page or it will just look messy and deter otherwise interested readers. The ultimate goal is to create interest, get the reader's name, and email address and forward them to a more detailed marketing or sales page. This page should look professional and achieve the above in as few words/pictures/videos as possible. That being said, a good balance of pictures, writing and videos can really make a difference as some people will prefer to only read what you've written, others will prefer to watch a video rather than read anything.

2 - HEADING

This is extremely important as it is the first thing the reader and the search engines see. It should be attention grabbing, use words like 'you', 'yours'. Try to make the reader feel that you are making this offer the 'them' and that it is a hot offer.

3 - CALL TO ACTION

Use words like 'special', 'one time offer' etc. This calls the reader to act now for fear of missing out on the special offer, discount or free gifts etc.

4 - PASSION or PAIN

If you address either of the above, you will attract attention as these are the main reasons people browse the internet, either searching for something they have a passion for or looking for a solution to a problem. Offer them either of these and you will not only get traffic to your page but you will get subscribers.

5 - OPT IN BOX

The opt-in box (where the reader puts their name and email) should be above the fold on the page. ie. They shouldn't have to scroll down to see it. Only ask for name and email, not phone number. The less you ask for the more opt-ins/subscribers you will get. Make this opt-in box attractive and the sign up button can say something along the lines of 'Yes, Luke, I want the tour' or 'Send me free gifts now'. If you want to put a lot of info on your page use two opt-in boxes, one above the fold and one at bottom.

6 - PERSONALISE IT

Personalise your lead capture page with a picture, video or some information about you. This makes the reader relate the product/opportunity to an individual person rather than an unknown source. This creates a like & trust factor and makes your offer appear more legitimate rather than some type of scam.

7 - WHERE TO NEXT

Next to or above the opt-in box, remind reader of your 'short time only offer' or 'special discount if you sign up now'. Once the reader puts their details into the opt-in box, you can send them wherever you like. I would recommend sending them to a marketing page with a more detailed explanation or review of the product/opportunity. This should have more information about you, including more pictures or videos and should provide an option to sign up now.

You can also put a link below the-opt in box, offering reader access to your marketing tour without them having to provide their details. Some people will simply not be comfortable putting their details into the box; this method ensures that you still don't miss out on the opportunity of making a sale to these people.
