05:09:12 - 28 January 2016

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/9f976n/desktop) has announced the addition of the "Desktop Virtualization: Emerging Requirements and Optimal Configurations" report to their offering.

The adoption of desktop virtualization technologies (including VDI, client-hosted, stateless, and application virtualization) has doubled in the past four years, with the largest increase occurring over the past two years. To understand what is behind this trend and to identify the impacts of rapidly evolving technologies (such as workforce mobility and cloud computing) conducted primary, survey-based research across a broad range of industry verticals and horizontals.

Included in this research report are key findings from the survey results, including: adoption and usage trends; the impact of enterprise mobility; deployment and administration support trends; server architectures and efficiency technology adoptions; critical barriers to success; optimal management practices and solutions; and overall outcomes achieved from desktop virtualization adoption. Go beyond the market hype and find out the real-world experiences organizations are having with desktop virtualization technologies.

Key findings from the survey results include the following:

- Recent adoption rates of desktop virtualization solutions are principally driven by an increase in deployment by smaller organizations

- The primary reasons organizations initially adopt a desktop virtualization solution are to reduce IT management costs, enhance security, and improve IT availability

- Roughly 27% of access to virtual desktops and applications is now initiated from mobile devices, and this trend in increasing

- The use of contracted services - including software integrators, professional services, and managed service providers - to deploy and manage desktop virtualization environments was noted by roughly one-third of respondents, most of whom adopted their solution within the past five years

- 66% of all desktop virtualization environments are hosted on virtualized servers, while only 17% are hosted on standalone servers

- Automated load balancing and workload automation are employed by more than half of all desktop virtualization adopters to improve the efficiency of their environments

- On average, desktop virtualization adopters experience 3.5 problems with their environment per month

- Failure rates for organizations that employ internal IT technical support are 40% lower than for those that rely on external support providers

- Storage management was reported to be the most difficult process for supporting desktop virtualization environments

- 93% of survey respondents indicated their organization had adopted at least one type of automated management solution to support their desktop virtualization environment

- While all management solutions displayed a dramatic improvement in ensuring reliability across desktop virtualization infrastructures, organizations that adopted network management platforms noted greater than 80% fewer problems than organizations that have not adopted any management solutions

- Organizations with software-defined data center solutions were able to deploy and provision virtual desktops 5 to 10 times faster than organizations that have not adopted any management solutions

- More than half of all survey respondents were able to report that the adoption of desktop virtualization has made administrative tasks easier for all key management processes

- 95% of survey respondents reported their organization had achieved measurable cost savings since the introduction of a desktop virtualization platform

- While all survey respondents indicated their organization had achieved some business value from the adoption of desktop virtualization, the most frequently noted advantage was an increase in business agility

- 79% of survey respondents indicated they were either satisfied or very satisfied with current platform adopted by their organization
