OpenStack Silicon Valley Boasts Powerful Keynote Roster On Latest Cloud Technologies

03:32:46 - 31 July 2015

Intel, Google, Cisco, IBM Debate the Intersection of OpenStack and Containers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwired) - Industry luminaries from August Capital, Battery Ventures, Cisco, CoreOS, EMC, Google, HP, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Mirantis, OpenStack Foundation, Oracle, Pivotal, Rackspace and more will come together to discuss the intersection of OpenStack and containers at the second annual OpenStack Silicon Valley on August 26 and 27 in Mountain View, CA.

This year's OpenStack Silicon Valley keynote speaker lineup and topics include:

  • Adrian Cockcroft, technology fellow, Battery Ventures
Web services and microservices: the effect on vendor lock-in: Modern applications depend on web services and open source components to operate. Some of those are provided by public and private clouds, some are platform solutions or SaaS vendors, and some are provided by other parts of a microservices based application. In the old world, vendors were deeply embedded in application architecture or by direct local interfaces but with web services and open source there is far more flexibility and less lock-in. Cockroft will discuss how to choose the best features needed to build applications, while managing the real risk of lock-in.
  • Alex Polvi, CEO, CoreOS
Containers for the Enterprise: It's Not That Simple: Containers are rapidly finding their way into enterprise data centers. But enterprises like to consume complete products. How do technologies like containers make their way from hyperscale ubiquity to enterprise nirvana? Polvi will offer some clues.
  • Amit Tank, principal architect - cloud architecture and OpenStack, DIRECTV
Amit Tank will join Jonathan Bryce during his keynote (below) to discuss how DirecTV uses OpenStack to provide a single control plane for mature technologies like VMs and emerging technologies like containers.
  • Craig McLuckie, product manager, Google
Containers: Ending the IaaS / PaaS Distinction: Craig McLuckie will show how Google's work with Kubernetes and the OpenStack community has delivered this powerful container management technology to OpenStack users. More broadly, McLuckie will show how Kubernetes and other container management technologies are taking the best attributes of PaaS platforms and making them available at every level of the stack.
  • Jonathan Bryce, executive director, OpenStack Foundation
OpenStack as the Platform for Innovation: Hundreds of companies are running millions of cores in production with OpenStack. The work continues, but the platform is mature. Now, the community is evolving OpenStack into a platform for innovation--a reliable environment in which to test, try and adopt new technologies as they prove themselves.
  • Lew Tucker, VP and CTO of cloud computing, Cisco
OpenStack: Changing the Face of Service Delivery: As more companies move to software-driven infrastructures, OpenStack opens up new possibilities for traditional network service providers, media production, and content providers. Micro-services, and carrier-grade service delivery become the new watchwords for those companies looking to disrupt traditional players with virtualized services running on OpenStack.
