ColoGuard, New York City’s premiere provider of colocation and data center services, today weighed in on the challenges and rewards of big data in light of news that the midmarket has begun to adopt big data technology.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) January 30, 2015 - ColoGuard, New York City’s premiere provider of colocation and data center services, today weighed in on the challenges and rewards of big data in light of news that the midmarket has begun to adopt big data technology.

According to a recent survey of 300 key IT decision-makers by Dell, nearly half of mid-market companies have a big data project in place, while 55% intend to initiate one in the foreseeable future. 80% of respondents agree that they need to better equip themselves to analyze their rapidly-expanding collections of data, while approximately half of the businesses with a big data solution in place are satisfied with the results. Of the challenges facing the midmarket, the wide variety of data types and structures was frequently-cited, as was the cost and relative lack of readily-accessible data cleansing tools.

“For quite some time, the term ‘big data’ was little more than a buzzword for most businesses,” said Ray Sidler, CEO of ColoGuard. “The primary reason for this was that most organizations simply lacked the resources necessary to properly analyze big data. It was something chiefly isolated to large enterprises.”

ColoGuard points to cloud computing and more affordable hosting plans as two of the driving factors behind big data adoption. Since organizations are required to spend less on servers and bandwidth, they can devote more of their resources towards the analysis of big data. Moving forward, they feel that this trend will become significantly more pronounced.

“That mid-market businesses are now so aggressively pursuing analytics technology is a good sign. It means big data insights are slowly becoming more reliable for organizations all across the board - from small businesses and startups right up to established enterprises,” he continued. “There are still challenges, of course, but the results of this survey show that, from here, there’s nowhere to go but up.”

ColoGuard maintained that it will itself remain dedicated to providing its clients with high-quality, competitively-priced servers and racks, to better allow businesses to deal with the demands of big data - and any other challenges they might face.
