Geek Certified was originally founded in 2004 and now boasts nearly 500 rigorously certified hosts.

The site’s current owner, Minneapolis-based DWC Network, said the site has not charged user fees for the past several years and therefore the company cannot afford to continue to operate it without improvements. It hopes to sell the site to an organization who can continue to operate it as a service to the hosting industry.

The site also offers free dispute mediation services for hosts and consumers, and developed the first-ever “Host’s Pledge” and “Client’s Pledge” – written agreements that help reduce the number of disputes between hosting companies and their customers.
