BetterPhoto.com Celebrates 10 Years of Leadership in Online Photography Community

14:29:17 - 02 March 2006

Anniversary Year To Focus on 150,000 Worldwide Members

BetterPhoto.com, the worldwide leader in online photography education, today announced the celebration of its 10th anniversary, which will be rolled out with a series of promotions and events for its members throughout 2006.

"I'm so honored that BetterPhoto has grown to be the community and resource it has in the last ten years," said Jim Miotke, President and founder of BetterPhoto.com. "Our members and community are the core of our site, and we've developed a lot of programs to really thank them this year."

BetterPhoto began in 1996 when Jim was inspired to explore Web publishing when a friend shared her experiences creating an online college thesis. With a unique major that combined American studies and high technology, she was required to publish her final project on the Web. Seeing this was all Jim needed to become totally inspired, diving whole-heartedly into Web development.

Jim did not want to simply create another personal home page. He listened to the wisdom "Write about what you love" and Jim published a brief article - his Top Ten Tips on photography. The rest, as they say, is history. This short article served to launch what was to become the premier educational Web site on photography.

Today, BetterPhoto.com brings together over 50,000 active members for learning, fun, and community. The site offers over 50 courses on photography and Photoshop, taught by scores of published, professional photographers including Tony Sweet, Brenda Tharp, Jim Zuckerman, Outdoor Photographer editor Rob Sheppard, and Shutterbug editor George Schaub. The monthly BetterPhoto.com contest, considered the best on the web, brings in over 25,000 entries monthly, and awards winners in 10 categories.
