Infoblox Network Identity Appliances Contribute to Mindjet Business Success

03:38:59 - 24 January 2006

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 23, 2006 — Infoblox Inc., a developer of essential infrastructure for identity-driven networks (IDNs), today announced that Mindjet Corporation, the leading provider of software for visualizing and managing information with more than 600,000 users worldwide, has selected and deployed Infoblox network identity appliances to improve the reliability and reduce management overhead associated with its network identity infrastructure.

With online sales, customer support and training, Mindjet’s business relies on providing 24x7 access to its Internet and network services for its employees, customers and partners.  If its essential network identity services – domain name resolution (DNS) or dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) services – were to fail, Mindjet operations would grind to a halt, jeopardizing its core revenue stream and ability to service its customers.

Recognizing that DNS and DHCP infrastructures are mission-critical and essential for nonstop operation of its voice over IP (VoIP) and wireless networks, among other IP applications, the Mindjet IT team overhauled its entire DNS and DHCP infrastructure, which previously consisted of general-purpose servers and software, with an Infoblox solution.

Nils Puhlmann, director of IT and Security at Mindjet, commented: “Because DNS and DHCP services are so critical, using a dedicated appliance with a hardened, propriety operating system is safer.  And, having an easy-to-use GUI allows us to manage the system without requiring trained experts.  Further, the appliances provide unparalleled reliability with the failover capabilities and shared database.”

Four Infoblox appliances running the DNSone and Keystone modules are deployed in high-availability pairs to provide external DNS.  Two more internally facing appliances are deployed to assign IP addresses using DHCP for more than 300 users at the company’s new San Francisco-based headquarters.  The appliances set up to deliver DHCP services will soon support IP address assignment for Mindjet’s new wireless and VoIP applications.

The hardened appliance design and intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) enable the offloading of network identity services, such as DNS, DHCP and IPAM, from general-purpose servers that lack reliability and scalability, require significant management overhead for patching and upgrading, and often introduce security vulnerabilities.  Instead, these services can be easily managed by purpose-built, hardened appliances that are inherently secure, reliable and scalable, freeing network administration resources and providing increased security.

The appliances are linked into an ID grid using the Infoblox Keystone module on each device, providing enhanced availability, visibility and management benefits.  And, built-in IP address management (IPAM) capabilities provide essential reporting and control over IP address utilization without the need for separate hardware or software.

Puhlmann concluded:  “We are very pleased with the Infoblox appliances.  There is little to no patching required and you don’t need dedicated resources to administer the systems.  This solution provides the essential resiliency and overall network availability we need to ensure our Internet presence and network services are operating 24x7.  And, we have the foundation necessary to support VoIP and wireless applications in the future.”
