12:25:50 - 07 November 2005

New Solution Enables Customers to Defend Their Networks

AUSTIN, Texas - November 7, 2005 - Broadwing Communications, LLC, a consolidated subsidiary of Broadwing Corporation (NASDAQ: BWNG), today announced the availability of its Managed Premises-based Security Services designed to deliver seamless security to its customers.

Broadwing's Managed Premises-based Security Services go beyond providing network infrastructure to provide the end-to-end security services that protect the enterprises's IT assets. The services assist enterprises with preventing, detecting and mitigating attacks against networks and IT infrastructures. Available solutions include firewall monitoring and management, intrusion detection and prevention, vulnerability management, security consulting, and security education. The services are delivered using a range of premise equipment designed to meet varied enterprise needs - from the branch office environment to a Fortune 100 headquarters location.

Broadwing's Managed Premises-based Security Services are delivered in an alliance with Getronics, a global IT services company and providers of the Getronics RedSiren Security Solutions portfolio.  By teaming with Getronics, Broadwing will provide enterprise customers with comprehensive service bundles that combine Broadwing's award-winning network services with Getronics' market-leading managed security expertise.

The 2004 E-Crime Watch survey, conducted among security and law enforcement executives by CSO magazine in cooperation with the United States Secret Service and the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute's CERT® Coordination Center, shows a significant number of organizations reporting an increase in electronic crimes (e-crimes) and network, system or data intrusions. Forty-three percent (43%) of respondents report an increase in e-crimes and intrusions versus the previous year and 70% report at least one e-crime or intrusion was committed against their organization.

"Enterprise IT staffs are challenged by complex network infrastructures, regulatory compliance requirements, and the need to support new applications that are core to the business, all while defending against an ever-changing mix of security threats," said Michael Suby, Program Manager at Stratecast Partners (a Division of Frost & Sullivan). "By integrating Getronics' security services with Broadwing's network solutions into an end-to-end managed network and security solution, Broadwing is helping its customers in maintaining the network reliability essential in their mission critical communications."

"Broadwing understands that security threats remain paramount for any enterprise - regardless of size or type," said Donovan Dillon, vice president of marketing at Broadwing. "Our Managed Premises-based Security Services are designed to help reduce revenue losses and minimize damages by defending against malicious attacks - 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

The Broadwing Managed Premises-based Security Services will be monitored and managed from security and network operations centers in Reston, Va., and Austin, Texas.  The services are backed by service level agreements that guarantee critical incident notification, patch application, and change management.
