Telx Chooses AboveNet Dark Fiber to Link NY Metro-Area Data Centers

09:13:07 - 04 February 2009

NEW YORK (February, 2009) – Telx, one of the largest domestic interconnection and colocation data center operators, has chosen AboveNet, a leading fiber optic connectivity provider, to link its New York and New Jersey-based data centers with dark fiber. Customers installing equipment in one of Telx’s four New York area facilities will have low latency in their connections between these locations, and the option to connect directly to more than 500 other carrier and enterprise customers over a Telx-managed optical transport network.

The new AboveNet dark fiber optical network connects Telx’s four primary New York metro area data centers at 111 8th Avenue, 60 Hudson Street in New York, 300 Boulevard East in Weehawken, N.J, and Telx’s newest facility at 100 Delawanna Avenue in Clifton, N.J. by using diverse fiber routes with two separate Hudson River crossings.

“Physical path diversity was a critical design element of the network to ensure the highest reliability for customers, especially those working in top-tier financial services where there is zero tolerance for network interruption. In addition, the dark fiber and optical transport offers the lowest possible latency for customers connecting to financial institutions’ networks that are colocated in Telx facilities, such as Gargoyle Strategic Investments LLC.  and ACTIV Financial,”, said Mike Terlizzi Executive Vice President Engineering and Operations, of Telx.

This infrastructure is key to allowing customers to easily expand their operations across many Telx facilities to provide them with the most networks with which to interconnect, as well as for purposes of disaster recovery. Telx creates the most robust interconnection solutions, that serve more customers and allows them to expand their businesses.

As part of the agreement, AboveNet has also extended its dense metro optical network within the Telx suite at 100 Delawanna where it will establish a PoP for serving customers. This enables AboveNet’s enterprise and financial services customers to easily distribute applications or other critical infrastructure components to Telx’s Clifton, N.J. data center. This enhanced capability will provide much-needed business continuity, disaster recovery and storage options for Telx’s New York based customers.

“AboveNet has a proven track record delivering highly scalable and reliable fiber optic connectivity and other high-bandwidth services to financial services, media and entertainment, and other enterprise companies,” said MaryBeth Nance, Executive Director of Business Development & Marketing at AboveNet. “Our customers can now extend into Telx’s colocation facilities in N.J., and source the best data center and optical networking solutions to help them optimize key IT infrastructures.”
