5 Design Tips For Everyone Starting A Brand New WordPress

2017-01-30by Andre Smith

When you buy your first hosting package it's one of the best feelings in the world. You're finally on the way to building your dream business. Unfortunately when you click on your new WordPress installation you're usually left disappointed. It's not as perfect as you thought it would be.

Hopefully you've chosen a nice theme, but there is still some design tips you can apply to new websites. We're going to focus on a few of them today, so you'll be able to start concentrating on the more important stuff. Take care of these once you've got your new website up and running.

It Needs To Look Simple

Think of your website like a blank canvas and slowly create your masterpiece on top of it. If you create categories you don't want to add links to the sidebar if they don't even have any posts yet. If you don't have much going on you might not even need a sidebar for a few months. Keep the design really simple until you have a specific reason to add something to it.

Should Be Easy To Read

You're going to have posts and articles on your website. In the beginning they don't have to be perfect, so don't feel like you need to spend hours and hours crafting each one. But please make sure people can read what you've written at the very least. You need to design the text in a way readers will be able to consume the content easily. Dark text, a plain font, and text big enough to read without a microscope will do.

Pick Your Main Colors

If you look on WebDesignRankings.com you'll find some of the most opinionated designers on the internet, but they'll all agree on one thing. Your website should have one primary color and a secondary one to compliment it. You can mess around with all the extras later, but you want these two colors to look good together. They're going to stand out the most when new visitors land on your website.

Focus On Your Navigation

The look of your website is crucial, but ultimately it's the pages on your site where you sell products that matter. You can't afford to ignore the navigation when it comes to the design of your site. When starting out you should only have a page or two where you want people to go, so it shouldn't be difficult to send them there. They should also be able to reach those pages with one click of the mouse.

You Need An Action Color

This is one of the best psychological tricks you can use when it comes to web design. The reason it's so important is because you'll make more money. You'll need to train people to click on links so they automatically hit the 'buy now' button. You do this by making all of the links the same color, and the color you choose shouldn't be used anywhere else on the site to stop it from losing its effectiveness.

You'll Work On It For Years

Everyone works on the design of their website for years, but they'll never get it right. They'll always be changing something because they can't help themselves. So it's guaranteed you'll end up doing the same thing, which should prove to you the website doesn't need to be flawless right now. If you can get each of these basics sorted and you'll be fine.
