Go Anywhere With Dell's Thin Laptops - Through The Ages

2012-09-25by Brian Jensen

Looking for an ultrathin, ultralight computer to take on your next adventure? The options are impressive and have come a long way since the late 80’s. Check out the evolution of Dell’s thin laptops through the ages.

First Dell Laptop: 316LT

Though this laptop was considered top-of-the-line when it was released in 1989, its specs seem quaint by today’s standards—in fact, it didn’t even come with a color screen. On the bright side, since this laptop weighed in at a hefty 6.7 kg, it was possible to a great upper body workout while carrying it around.

First Color Display: 325NC

In addition to being the first Dell laptop to feature a color display, the 325NC managed to shave off more than 3 cm of thickness and lose an impressive 3.8 kilos.

Dell Business Laptop: Latitude XPi

With a lithium-ion battery that could hold up to long business trips, this laptop was revolutionary in changing the way portable computers were seen by the public. Despite its technological advances, however, the Latitude XPi was still quite heavy to travel with.

Getting Even Smaller: Latitude X200

At only 2 cm of thickness, the Latitude X200 was one of Dell’s most portable laptops ever when it was released in 2002. Business and home users alike loved the X200’s state-of-the-art (for the time) features like the low-voltage Pentium-III-M processor and 30 GB hard drive.

Design and Mobility: Adamo

Dell users across the globe “fell in love with” the Adamo when it was unveiled at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show. This ultralight, high-end notebook featured a modern design with an aluminum case and high-end hardware on the inside to match. This notebook set the bar for size, weight, and usability.

Thinnest and Lightest: XPS 13 Ultrabook

The XPS 13 Ultrabook is Dell’s thinnest and lightest laptop ever. At its thinnest point, this notebook is an ultra-slim 6 mm while still at its thickets only reaches 18 mm total. Despite being so slender, the XPS 13 is incredibly powerful. It delivers rich visuals, amazing speed, and a gesture-enabled touchpad, all wrapped in an attractively sleek package.

It would seem at least for the times, whatever our dreams or desires were, the next best thing wasn’t too far out of reach. Despite how amazing the new Dell XPS 13 is, there is always room for improvement in the future. What would you dream to add to the design in order to make it suite your needs better than ever?
