Adobe Teams with GeoTrust for E-Business Services

00:00:00 - 07 October 2004

Adobe Systems Incorporated (www.adobe.com) and GeoTrust, Inc. (www.geotrust.com), a leader in identity verification solutions for e-business and a leading certification authority, today announced the availability of a jointly-developed certified document service or "CDS" solution.

"With the ability to certify documents, essential business processes that used to rely on expensive and time-consuming paper-based forms can now be fully and more securely automated," said Ivan Koon, senior vice president, Intelligent Document business unit at Adobe.

Now, people who receive certified AdobeĀ® PDF files can be automatically assured that the author's identity has been verified by a trusted organization, and that the document has not been altered.

"The proliferation of phishers, identity thieves and fraudulent businesses has created an environment of distrust that has the potential to undermine legitimate online business transactions and communications," said Neal Creighton, CEO of GeoTrust.

Organizations that communicate critical information to broad audiences, such as financial services organizations and government agencies, are struggling to deal with alarming new trends - from phishing to document forgery - which in turn erode customer confidence and cause liability issues.

"But, by certifying that documents are genuine and tamper-proof, the certified document services solution from Adobe and GeoTrust should prove invaluable in allowing organizations and consumers to confidently conduct e-business."

CDS signing significantly raises the level of document integrity and verification over traditional digital signing because the user's digital credentials must be issued by a WebTrust-certified authority using strict vetting guidelines, and then must be stored on a secure cryptographic hardware device.
