Linksys Offers New Voice Over IP Solutions

00:00:00 - 24 August 2004

August 24, 2004  - (HostReview.com) - Linksys® (www.linksys.com), a division of Cisco Systems, Inc., the leading provider of broadband, wireless and networking hardware for the consumer, Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) and small business markets, today announced new Voice Over IP (VoIP) products to help consumers and small offices save money and get more use out of their broadband connection.

"Today broadband in the home and small office is used for a variety of applications including surfing the web, sending email, sharing photos, games and music. We believe adding voice capabilities to this high speed network is the next important step and provides users with more capability," said Charlie Giancarlo, president of Cisco-Linksys. "

In-Stat/MDR, a leading market research firm, reports that by the end of 2008 10.3% of the 59.1 million broadband users in the US will use IP telephony, and from 2004 through 2008 over 33 million VoIP enabled broadband access devices will ship worldwide.

The New Linksys Phone adapter, combined with a subscription to a specific VoIP service plan, turns your existing Internet connection into a high-quality phone line for placing and receiving phone calls. The phone adapter comes equipped with two standard phone ports (RJ-11) and one Ethernet port (RJ-45). Users connect their existing cordless or stationary phones or a fax machine to the phone adapter; connect the phone adapter to a router or gateway via the Ethernet port. Each phone jack operates independently, with separate phone service and phone numbers - like having two phone lines. With the high-quality telephone service provided by Vonage®, you get clear telephone reception and reliable fax connections, even while surfing the Internet at the same time.

This latest version of the best-selling Linksys wired and wireless router integrates phone adapter functionality to deliver all-in-one solutions that lets customers share a broadband connection while making phone calls (with a VoIP service subscription).
