Translating Zurmo Open Source CRM Becomes Simple And Collaborative As Global Demand For The Application Grows

04:44:22 - 16 January 2013

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) January 16, 2013 - Contributors to the Zurmo Open Source Customer Relationship Management application today announced a major enhancement to the process of translating the software into other languages. The new translation method facilitates teamwork and quality control in a manner similar to other successful multilingual open source projects such as Wikipedia and Drupal. The Zurmo team made the decision to dedicate resources towards a collaborative translation solution after noting a steady increase in global enthusiasm and demand for the application.

The language translation effort is spearheaded by Zurmo evangelist Sergey Fayngold, a Hamburg-based PHP and MySQL developer who specializes in building Drupal modules. The enhanced language tool is powered by a Drupal l10n server that integrates with the Zurmo.org Community Forums, where members can contribute within teams corresponding to specific language translations. Suggestions are actively checked and moderated by other team members.

“We’ve laid the foundation for language contributors in our community to have a place where they can organize their efforts to reach the best translation quality,” states Fayngold. “New labels are added much faster and are moderated by native speakers. Additionally, better translation suggestions are implemented through an out-of-the-box release management tool, making it easier to improve older versions of the application.”

In keeping with the spirit of gamification within both the Zurmo software and community, the language tool has progress bars and contribution statistics. A leaderboard lists top contributors according to translation count along with other key metrics.

“As the Zurmo project continues to gain momentum globally, we want it to be easy to include as many languages as possible,” states Zurmo Community Manager Stafford McKay. “Thanks to Sergey, you do not need to be a software engineer in order help with a Zurmo translation. We kind of think of ourselves as ninjas knocking down barriers to internationalization.”

Among the most active countries in terms of downloads and contributions over the past six months include the United States, India, China, Serbia, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Spain, Argentina, and Turkey.

All Zurmo releases are translated into German, Italian, Spanish, and French and natively available within the application.
