Webmaster Hosting Plans

2006-04-25by Rodney Ringler

Reseller web hosting companies focus most of their sales efforts on marketing to small web hosting companies. Over the years they have tailored their services to make their reseller hosting plans basically a turn key package for a small hosting company with everything from private label nameservers to billing and marketing systems. These packages are great for the startup web host, but there is another segment of the marketthat they seem to ignore, the webmaster.

Webmasters are everywhere now and not all are technical. There are webmasters that sell products through ebay auctions. There are webmasters with content sites that generate revenue with Google's Adsense and YPN. There are common people all over the world selling products/services and content. These all require websites. A lot of these websites are just wrappers for drop shipping companies or news feeds, but none the less they are websites. And who knows a webmaster with only 1 website. Everyone doing business on the internet has more then 1 website. If you have multiple websites then a Reseller web hosting plan is one of the best ways to manage them. A lot of budget web hosts are seeing this opportunity and tailoring their cheap hosting plans to allow multiple domains.

Reseller web hosting providers should skinny down their offerings, shave the price and create a simple reseller hosting plan that allows multiple domain names and control panels to manage them.  These plans can have a reduced price because they do not need extra features like multiple ip addresses, private label nameservers, billing systems, and customer trouble ticket support. These “webmaster hosting plans“ would be a nice compliment to normal reseller web hosting services.

Reseller web hosts can bill these plans as Webmaster Hosting plans instead of Reseller hosting plans. This allows them to brand a new class of hosting plan and by name will be marketable to webmasters. By eliminating things like private label nameservers and extra ip addresses they can justify the lower price to their installed base without a revolt. The last thing a Reseller hosting company needs, when they introduce a new hosting plan,  is all of the their customers asking to be changed to the new cheaper hosting plan.

Reseller web hosts are the logic players to take advantage of this market segment, but to date, budget web hosts and affordable web hosting companies are capturing these customers with their “multi domain hosting plans“. This is a new brand of hosting plans that Budget web hosting companies are marketing. Historically, budget web hosts do not have the features and control panels to manage multiple websites like a reseller hosting company. But in this case they have seized the opportunity and created the features they needed.

It is yet to be seen if Budget web hosts with their “multi domain hosting plans“ will capture the webmaster communities' hosting needs, or if Reseller web hosts can capture them with “Webmaster hosting plans“. Either way webmasters will benefit from the increased competition.
