Most Reliable Hosting in May

2009-06-03by Derek Vaughan

Netcraft has released its survey of the most reliable hosting companies for May 2009. Netcraft is an Internet services company based in Bath, England. The company provides Internet security services, including anti-fraud and anti-phishing services, application testing, code reviews, and automated penetration testing. Additionally, Netcraft provides research data and analysis on many aspects of the Internet - particularly hosting servers and domain name activity.

The Netcraft list of the Top 50 Most Reliable Web Hosting Companies is updated continuously to note connectivity and outages in 15 minutes intervals. At the conclusion of each month the results for the entire month are correlated and the top 10 sites are announced. The top 10 for the month of May 2009 are:

New York Internet
pair Networks
INetU
Swishmail
Verio
Virtual Internet
Server Intellect
ReliableServers.com
Kattare Internet Services
www.westhost.com

It should be noted that the uptime data is collected from specific data center locations - London/DXI Networks, New York/New York Internet, Pennsylvania/INetU-2, Virginia/Rackspace, San Jose/Datapipe, Phoenix/GoDaddy and Italy/Aruba. The companies that maintain a collection point have an advantage over the other companies listed in the table, as each of them have a collector in their own datacenter. Also companies located in the U.S. have an advantage over companies in the rest of the world as more of the collectors are located there, and companies in the Far East are at a disadvantage as we do not currently have a performance collector in the region.

One company of note that finished just out of the top 10 (specifically number 13) in May is new comer to the list, UK reseller hosting brand 34SP.com. The complete table of results for May can be viewed here: http://uptime.netcraft.com/perf/reports/performance/Hosters?tn=may_2009.

Netcraft has been monitoring sites on the Internet since 1995 and is a respected authority on the market share of web servers, operating systems, hosting providers, ISPs, encrypted transactions, electronic commerce, scripting languages and content technologies on the Internet.
