AI Data Processing Via Computing Distribution Saves Money

2021-04-06by Nathan Brown

AI data processing through distributed computing or edge devices is cost-effective, as it avoids the traveling time of data from a system to the cloud. The integration of deep learning makes it more effective, as the artificial neural network identifies valuable data to be processed at the edge and sends the rest to the cloud.

Enterprises all over the world are embracing the Edge devices. These are what provide an entry into the core networks, using routers, routing switches, integrated access devices, multiplexers, and wide area network access devices etc.

As the volumes of data to transit to the cloud are massively increasing, people have swiftly started to turn towards the cloud for feeding files, folders and web content. However, many data entry outsourcing services providers have been doing it at an affordable price. But, this is not a cost-effective idea. The budget automatically overwhelms you, as you have to add on more and more broadband capacities.

But, AI data processing via computing distribution can reduce cost and connectivity burdens.

Computing Distribution via Edge Devices

In the era of artificial intelligence, we needed an effective technology that can eliminate the need to transfer data. Edge computing has so far proven its capacity to make it happen. As the datasets are overwhelmingly produced, this computing bridges the gap between data processing resources, data and devices. This is how the traveling time of data from one device to another one or the cloud gets reduced. This traveling time of data is also called data latency.

With shorter data latency, many time-sensitive processes like video streaming or self-driving cars can be benefited.  If so happens, the ML models are likely to accelerate automation and independence at the edge technology.

Rather than extracting, picking up, and transferring critical data to the processing funnel for mining, a fully automated system is needed, which can help in getting rid of delays in transitions. However, there are some instances wherein humans are forced to interfere with the system. But, this is not sufficient in cases where one needs to make instant decisions. This is where the edge technology wins.

Deep Learning Reduces Cost & Bandwidth

Deep learning replicates the reason power of the human brain. It’s apparent that high volumes of data are sent to the cloud for AI processing. It often requires you to have a big pocket, as the cloud services are expensive and broadband capacities do not come for free. Simply put, you should be ready to invest thousands of dollars.

What if the processing can happen at the very point where the datasets are captured?

It can happen with deep learning, which makes devices self-learn using their neural networks. It enables devices to gain insights from unstructured and unlabelled datasets.  If this artificial neural network gets integrated with edge devices, you can save millions of dollars and time. You would transfer a minimal amount of information to data centers. The artificial neural system would discard invaluable details and send only meaningful information that can become an algorithm for AI.

What To Put At Edge Devices

This is a big challenge. Many enterprises and organizations are unable to develop a definite architecture wherein perfect segregation of useful and less valuable can happen. Most of these organizations attempt to distribute collected information and how to keep the most valuable at the edge and less meaningful into the cloud.

In short, they are tussling with how to create a cloud-to-edge data strategy.

The Tata Consultancy Services vice president-SreenivasaChakravarti advocated for integrating autonomous edge capabilities where self-driven technology is required. But, the biggest hindrance is the synchronization of autonomous activity in a large workspace, where operations are many.

In addition, there should have a particular space for a human interface. An autonomous car is its biggest example.

What’s Next in AI Data Processing At Edge

As per predictive research, the edge devices for shipping are likely to use AI processing, pushing data from industrial PCs to mobile phones & drones by 2025.

Many chip manufacturers are in the marathon of marketing AI acceleration modules for very effective edge computing devices. Many tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon are competing with emerging Blaize and Hailo Technologies to make it happen. Around 30 companies are busy developing AI acceleration chip technology that can easily fuse with edge applications, which is making it a cutthroat competition.

Wrap Up

Many AI applications are in the pipeline that can easily go with edge computing. But, there is a fear of much greater advancement. People are not ready to invest in its research and development because of the fear of being unable to comply with the sudden change in AI capabilities. But, the daring companies are not waiting for long. They have started preparing themselves to adapt competency for the future-rising edge technology.
