5 Mobile Marketing Tips

2020-09-07by Joseph Alkenson

Mobile devices are continuing to grow in popularity every year, from smart phones to tablets. In fact, it’s expected that roughly 1.75 billion people will own smart phones this year. That’s not even counting the people that use tablets! This means that any business that isn’t implementing a mobile marketing strategy into their marketing plan is going to fall behind quickly. Too many consumers can be reached via mobile devices. In fact, it won’t be long until more people access the Internet through their mobile devices than through their desktop computers. Not to mention that many mobile device owners use their mobile devices outside of their homes on a regular basis, such as while they are out shopping, which is the perfect time to reach them! The following are five mobile marketing tips that you should keep in mind when developing your company’s mobile marketing strategy:

Make sure your emails are mobile friendly

If you conduct email marketing campaigns, then keep in mind that many of the recipients that have signed up for your emails check them via their smart phones or tablets. In fact, a staggering 88 percent of email users check their email on their phones every day. This means that if you are sending out emails, they had better be mobile friendly. You don’t want your readers to open an email and find themselves zoomed all the way into the top left corner of your email because it isn’t formatted to be viewed on a smaller screen. Also, keep in mind that smaller subject lines are necessary or else they’ll be cut off mid-sentence, forcing readers to scroll right in order to even read the email subject.

Make sure your website is mobile friendly

Just like the emails you send out, your website needs to be easy to view and navigate on a smart phone. None of your customers will want to spend more than a few seconds scrolling throughout your site in order to find relevant content they are looking for. Navigation is important for any website, and if a user has trouble navigating your site, they will simply abandon your site and go to a competitor’s site instead.

Make use of the touch screen

Mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets have a touch screen interface. This can make clicking small textual links within your content a little bit difficult. Use buttons and icons that are larger and easy to tap instead, and use call to action terms such as “tap to explore” or “tap to download.”

Take advantage of location based services

People are always using their phones in order to look up nearby stores or restaurants, or to find a specific product or service. They often do this while in transit or out on the road and will use location-based services such as Foursquare, Yelp, Urban Spoon and more in order to find what they are looking for. Make sure that your company has complete information on these sites with links to your main website, phone numbers and operating hours. You should also encourage customers to check in at location-based services such as Gowalla, Where or Foursquare, as this allows you to gather information on who your regular customers are and how often they visit your physical location. And also use backlink management software.

Use text message marketing

Getting your customers to sign up for SMS communication is a great way to reach your customers immediately about deals and promotions on products and services your company is offering. However, you have to be very careful about how often you text your customers, since they obviously won’t want to have to wade through endless texts that you’ve sent every day.

With the popularity of mobile devices continuing to rise, there’s no excuse for not having a mobile marketing strategy in place.
