Maximizing Desktop-to-Mobile Site Migration [Infographic]

In an age when so many of us spend several hours a day browsing our cellphones, the importance to companies of having a solid mobile presence has never been higher. Almost every business will have set up a website early in the 21stcentury but now, with mobile consumption so abundant, having a standalone desktop site is no longer enough.

What many smaller businesses might not realize is that there are several ways in which they can proceed with setting up a mobile site. The simplest method is to just convert their existing desktop site into a mobile-friendly version that rearranges content to fit on a smaller screen, but this requires a very precise transition of content. One alternative is to go with a responsive site which looks the same on whatever device you’re using, which is cheaper and more time-efficient for smaller businesses but might require a sacrifice in terms of loading speed as a full website is being sent through the Internet. Task-oriented mobile apps are also growing in popularity, especially for businesses whose customers largely have the same goal (e.g. flight bookings for airlines).

After you’ve decided on what format to use, the practicalities of going from desktop to mobile need to be mapped out. User experience should be at the core of each step of the process; your customers will want a mobile site that’s easy to navigate and use. If this means stripping back your mobile site from the full desktop version, so be it, but it helps to give your customers the option of accessing the full site from their mobile in case this is what they’d prefer.

This infographic from ERS IT Solutions contains some very useful advice on how businesses can handle the migration from desktop site to mobile in a way that makes life easy for customers and enables the company to keep earning conversions through a well-maintained desktop site. If you can crack both platforms, your business is very well placed to thrive.
