November 9, 2007; 04:33 AM Portsmouth, NH -- Port City Web, LLC (www.PortCityWeb.com),
an award-winning, full-service website design, development, hosting and
marketing company announced that it has completed many
significant upgrades to Washington, D. C. based Wonder Book's online
commerce website, located at www.wonderbk.com.
Wonder Book now has 1.5 million books for sale online, which represents
an increase of 1 million books for sale online through their website.
The 1 million new books for sale online complement the ½ million used
books for sale online through the company's ecommerce website.
Additionally, the design of the website was improved to help improve
the user experience and reflect the uniqueness of Wonder Book. "Wonder
Book has one of the largest selection of used books in-stock and ready
for shipment," said Chuck Roberts, President of Wonder Book. "We wanted
to expand our offering to include new books, and we wanted to change
our website to work more like Amazon's website."
"Key to the success of this project was integrating the data
feed of over 1 million books from Baker & Taylor, the nations
leading-supplier of new books to retail book stores," noted Erik Crago,
President and CEO of Port City Web. "We integrated the feed from Baker
& Taylor with the website shopping cart, and also pulled in the
feed from Wonder Book's in-house inventory management system. The end
result is just over 1.5 million books for sale on Wonder Book's
ecommerce website - all in one place, at one website. This was a
mammoth task to complete, and it shows the technical depth of my staff.
We might be small in numbers at 12 employees, but we pulled off a
project that most people would only trust to a 45 person web
development firm," said Crago.
Following the standards of Barns & Noble, Amazon and
Borders, the Wonder Book website keeps the user at the Wonder Book
website shopping cart and offers all the 1.5 million books for purchase
in a single location. This is accomplished by using custom programs
created by Port City Web that import data from multiple data sources.
Additionally, orders for books that are in Baker & Taylor's
warehouse are automatically sent to the warehouse by another custom
program developed by Port City Web. "We built the programs and systems
to save Wonder Book hundreds of hours per month in manual labor
processing and managing orders. Additionally, the systems we built
reduce the potential for human errors processing orders, which will
save Wonder Book more money and improve their relationships with their
customers," noted Crago.
About Wonder Book and Video
Since 1980 it has always been about the books. ALL kinds of
books from 95 cent children's paperbacks to five figure rare and
collectibles. Wonder Book's retail stores have always been places where
a reader can rush in looking for a title needed for a term paper that
is due the next day, or where bibliophiles can get lost "in the stacks"
for as long as they wish. Through our retail stores and now the
internet, Wonder Book has been recycling millions of books since 1980
by finding previously owned titles a brand new home. In 2000 we
launched our "Books by the Foot" service where Interior Designers can
purchase Decorator Books of all shapes, sizes, and colors in bulk. In
2002 USAToday recognized Wonder Book and Video as "1 of 10 Great Used
Bookstores", and we have been featured in numerous other newspaper and
TV stories.
