SingleHop, INc. Launches Benchmarking new Power-Saving ServerImmediate Discount Program offered October 17, 2007; 10:59 AM Chicago, IL -- Chicago-based managed dedicated server provider SingleHop, Inc. is setting a new industry standard with a program rewarding customers for using their new energy efficient servers: an immediate 10% discount for each new customer and for all customers who have signed on in the past three months. SingleHop is equipping its new datacenter with servers that run 30% more efficiently than the industry standard and will consequently share the resulting energy savings with their customers. While most industries have seen great strides in energy efficient technologies, server power technology has been at a literal standstill for close to 30 years. Component manufacturers have focused mainly on increasing speed, with little regard for power consumption. With the few new components now available, SingleHop spent several months assembling components to develop a very power efficient server. "Our server should become an industry standard for any hosting provider concerned with reducing power consumption," says Zak Boca. “Server speed is important to us. SingleHop has configured servers based on the highest speed to consumption ratio to insure that we don’t sacrifice speed for power efficiency,” says SingleHop President Zak Boca. An example of increased efficiencies can be found in SingleHop’s selection of power supplies that run at 95%+ efficiency as opposed to the industry standard 60%. “Most consumers have no idea what is ‘under the hood’ of their hosting providers’ servers. Our servers will cost approximately 20% more to build, but our power consumption may drop by as much as 30%,” says Boca. “The direct effect is a reduced power bill, lighter load on the power grid and increased capacity for growth. This is a good long term move because we don’t know where power costs are going and we will want to minimize our load on the system in the future,” he adds. About SingleHop, Inc.
